Born in Chicago on 13th June 1959, Juanita Vanoy spent her childhood in South Side Chicago and started her career as a fashion model from there. She also worked as a secretary for the American Bar Association prior to her marriage to the legendary NBA player Michael Jordan and came to be known as Juanita Jordan. The couple had a chance meeting in a restaurant in Chicago in 1984 during his second season with Chicago Bulls and dated each other till their engagement in 1987. However, they called off their engagement after a few days of having got engaged but later in 1989 took their sacred vows and tied the knot in Las Vegas. Subsequently they were blessed with two sons and a daughter.
Juanita filed for divorce from Michael Jordan on 04 Jan 2002 but reconciled soon after. They again file for divorce in 2006 on mutually agreed terms thereby putting an end to their marriage of 21 years. This resulted in Juanita receiving a huge divorce settlement of $168 million. It was considered as one of the costliest and biggest celebrity divorce settlements of its time. She invested $5 million in real estate and bought herself a luxurious and sprawling penthouse which she sold off in 2014.
She is the chairman and co-founder of Michael and Juanita Jordan Endowment Fund. The organisation renders support to development programmes in the fields of education and community development. Post divorce, she preferred staying away from limelight and devoting her time towards her children and their future. The couple is believed to be in touch with each other and the interactions are centred on their children. While sons Jeffery and Marcus have established themselves well, Jeffery having enrolled himself into the Nike management training program and Marcus having opened a fashion boutique, her daughter Jasmine is following the footsteps of her father.
Off late Juanita practises Bikram Yoga and also collects work of art by African-American artists in addition to travelling to her favourite holiday destinations. A down-to-earth and humble human being she continues to contribute for the betterment of society till date.
